Saturday Spotlight: Top 10 Cookies

Recently, I had a stretch during which I was extremely depressed. The reasons were varied and also unimportant. What was important was that I knew I had to do something to otherwise engage my thoughts. It was then that I reminded myself about the true joy I get from baking and cookie decorating. I love the creative process, practicing techniques, and admiring the end results. I even enjoy the problem-solving and lessons learned from epic fails! Being in the kitchen is the perfect way for me to self-care.

As I start to plan the cookie platters, gingerbread creations, and baked goods that I will be making over the next couple of months, I'm going to make sure I allow ample time to really enjoy the process. I don't want to bog myself down with deadline crunches, snafus, and mistakes. I want to stay focused on the stress-relief that baking and decorating can be and not get consumed by the stress-creator that it can become. When I am fully immersed, the experience is incredibly soothing and fulfilling. Isn't that really the point?

I'll tell you what else I find incredibly soothing. It's looking at clips of beautiful cookies. Particularly from all of you! And, this week's hot list* does not disappoint. It's a sweet conglomeration of all sorts of holidays and inspiration galore. I'm going to refrain from my usual commentary on each clip (except for our cover artist), and let all of you weigh in on what you find noteworthy. Please leave your thoughts on these cookies in the comments below. Let's get started, shall we?

What do you think?! Again, please leave comments below about specific clips, featured techniques, or anything you find noteworthy about the art and talented artists that I've spotlighted here. There is so much to celebrate.

Last but not least, during the busyness of the months ahead, I hope you too are able to take a moment and appreciate the self-care of cookie creation! ❤️

* As a reminder, a word about how the rankings are determined: The rankings are not at all subjective. In fact, they are determined essentially by you, our members, and the activity (number of views, likes, and comments) you've bestowed on each photo. The site uses a top-secret algorithm that weighs these various factors to determine which photos are trending most quickly (i.e., are the "hottest") over specified periods of time. As such, the hot list at the time of this announcement may look a little different a few hours or a day from now as more photos are added to the site.

So that no one has an unfair advantage in making it onto a hot list, the algorithm is secret even to site administrators. Only our platform developers know the code, which has been exhaustively tested by those developers and Cookie Connection staff.

All photos shown here are the courtesy (and copyright) of the designers listed.

To check out our other hot lists, at any time of day, visit our Hot Spot, also found in the site's main navigation line.

@LisaF, thanks for the wonderful roundup, especially during this chaotic election week in the US, which has been stressful for many (myself included). Congrats, of course, to all of our honorees as well! You'll find your "I was featured" badges in the PM area on this site within an hour. This post will hit social media tomorrow morning.

I'll kick off the comments on cookies by saying how delighted I was to see @Ryoko ~Cookie Ave.'s unique spin on the "surprise" royal icing panels that @Manu biscotti decorati introduced us to in her recent Halloween tutorial. It's always great to see people sharing with one another on this site, and building upon ideas to create new ones! 😀

Thanks for the featuring and congrats to all artists in thi wonderful spotlight! @LisaF I so agree with you about reminding ourself about the true joy of baking and cookie decorating and how soothing that is! Sometimes I forget… 💙

What a variety of techniques in this week's spotlight - a festive mix! There's sure to be something to inspire for everyone.

Baking and decorating truly are a form of therapy, one which has the potential to also help others when the results are shared. A win - win all around!

Congratulations to all who are featured and I am very honored to see my cookie along with such and beautifully creative cookies.   Thank you @LisaF for the roundup.  I'm very excited.

The ideas of @Manu biscotti decorati for her tutorials are always interesting and this time I couldn't resist myself not doing it by myself.

I flooded icing to make square mirror part and after it dried, I put some icing and occasionally saw how it looked like with sun light and the light of iphone.

To take the photo, I was in my small closet where is the darkest during daytime but too small to hide myself.   I lied on my stomach in the closet to hold my iphone steady but half of my body was sticking out from it and that is when my husband came back.   He always rolled his eyes.   He said "What are you doing?  I thought you were making cookies"    The procedure is always fun.

@Julia M. Usher  Tutorials are my most favorite here.  Spending lots of their time to create, trials, prepations, taking photos, writings.....  how much they do for us is incredible.   How they make cookies are just amazing.

@Manu biscotti decorati  @Aproned Artist. Thank you!
