From my experience, I have baked cookies, cooled, then frozen them. Then, when I need them to decorate, I pull the frozen cookies out of the freezer and let them thaw completely (at least a half hour) before I decorate. I have had the experience of decorating too soon (prior to the cookies being COMPLETELY thawed) and it created all sorts of problems with the frosting.

Hope that helps!

Yes, let them warm up completely to room temperature. The top surface cannot be damp/sticky at all. It has to be completely dry like if you pulled it off of the cooling rack after baking.

I am veering off a bit from the question in this topic, but it is definitely related.  Those of you who freeze your cookies between baking and decorating, how do you store them for freezing?  I need to do this, but was a little concerned about them sticking together.  Should I put wax paper or parchment between the layers?

I always put wax paper between my cookies even if I'm just putting them away for the night before icing...and when I freeze them, I put them in freezer bags (in stacks with paper between them) and then into a plastic container (Tupperware type).  I get as much air as possible out of the freezer bags.  I don't want any frost to form!

b, I'm going to move your question into another forum so it does not get lost at the end of a long thread like this. When you've got a new question, different from the one at the start, it's generally best to start a completely new thread/topic for organization purposes. Thanks!

Everyone, please respond to b's question about how to freeze cookies here, in this new forum: http://cookieconnection.juliau...aking-and-decorating

If you have something to add to this discussion about decorating straight from the freezer, then continue the conversation here.

Thanks so much!
