Hi, everyone! This week's Spotlight is testament to the fact that cookies can have a lot of staying power here on Cookie Connection. (Hint: So keep on posting! Posting means long-term visibility, not just in this community but amongst the broader world of visitors, tens of thousands of whom make their way to this site each week.) As it turns out, six of the ten cookies on tonight's hot list* were posted two or more years ago, and are, just now, experiencing a resurgence in views, likes, and overall attention. Sometimes it's clear why a cookie post rises to the top again - often, it's because of seasonal interest, as is the case with @Cookies on Cambridge's fall cover image. First posted in 2020, it now has nearly 900 views and is trending fast once again. Other times, the reason isn't as clear, apart from the fact that the cookies are notable in terms of their design and/or execution. A case in point is @Anastasia - Peony Cookies's solar system set, which sits in fifth place this week though it was first posted in 2017 and now has nearly 7,200 views. The painting and airbrushing on these cookies makes them so darn lifelike that it's hard not to look at them closely once or twice . . . or even more . . . to try to figure out exactly how they were done. (Or just to admire them, for that matter.)
Anywho, I am beginning to ramble and I have a bar mitzvah dinner I must get to, so, without further ado, here are our week's wonderful Spotlightees, a mixture of very recent and older posts . . .
#1: Baked Fish by LisaF [EDITOR'S NOTE: Way to go, @LisaF, for submitting the second fabulous entry in our current Watch-Learn-Create Challenge about shaping and covering contoured cookies! I love this charming, chubby guy. Everyone else, there's still plenty of time - about three weeks - to create, so I encourage you to check out the challenge for fun and learning - and even some cool prizes!]
#2: Wedding Cookies by Zeena
#3: Indian Bride and Groom Cookies by Zeena [EDITOR'S NOTE: Congrats on your second mention of the week, @Zeena. I am sure your sister was elated to have these lovely cookies at her recent wedding!]
#4: Circus Time - View #2 by Dora [EDITOR'S NOTE: I believe this cookie may mark @Dora's first Spotlight?! What a strong start!]
#5: Cookie Solar System by Anastasia - Peony Cookies [EDITOR'S NOTE: As noted above, these cookies are oldies but goodies, and seeing lots of renewed interest right now. Congrats to @Anastasia - Peony Cookies not only for her set's long-held interest, but also for being a first-time honoree, if my memory is correct.]
#6: 50th Wedding Anniversary Cookies by Sarah's Sweets [EDITOR'S NOTE: Yet another set with long-lasting popularity! These wedding classics were first posted in 2014 and have amassed about 12,700 views to date.]
#7: Blue Teddy Bears by Silviya Mihailova [EDITOR'S NOTE: Another perennial favorite, these delightful baby shower cookies were posted back in 2017, and have accumulated nearly 3,300 views. Congrats, @Silviya Mihailova!]
#8: Fall-Themed Baby Cookies by Cookieland
#9: Happy Fall! by Cookies on Cambridge [EDITOR'S NOTE: These cookies posted in 2020, and I am quite surprised they hadn't been featured 'til now. Wouldn't you agree that they're simply stunning? That's why I chose them for this week's cover image - not to mention, they're also so seasonally appropriate! Well done, @Cookies on Cambridge.]
And, last but not least, one of @Lorena Rodríguez's signature fondant sets that was first submitted in 2018 and now has nearly 3,000 views . . .
#10: Couture Cookies by Lorena Rodríguez
Wow, time flies! I got so distracted by this wonderful work that I now need to really hustle to get to this bar mitzvah on time. Honorees, I'll be back in touch with badges later tonight or tomorrow morning. Congrats again, and I'll see everyone here at roughly the same time next week!
So that no one has an unfair advantage in making it onto a hot list, the algorithm is secret even to site administrators. Only our platform developers know the code, which has been exhaustively tested by those developers and Cookie Connection staff.
