Like clockwork, as soon as Halloween is over, the Christmas ads and promos start coming in full force, flooding TV, social media, and the airwaves for two solid months. I see this overzealousness about Christmas here in American cookie-land as well. We cookiers seem to hop, skip, and jump directly from Halloween cookies onto Christmas ones, altogether forgetting about Thanksgiving treats (apart from pumpkin pie, that is)!
Well, I'm not about to let that happen again this year! 😀 No, no, no! You see, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. In fact, it's the only one where my whole family reliably comes together year after year, gathering from parts as far afield from one another as Massachusetts and Colorado, and from many states in between. Moreover, we express our love through shared food and fun, not via accumulating more trinkets and gifts. And, I must say, I like that.
If I'm sounding cynical about Christmas, I'm really not. I just appreciate Thanksgiving perhaps even more, and so I plan to celebrate it with cookies at least a few times this year - starting with this hot list*! Most of this week's honored cookies are blasts from the past, some published as far back as 2013, but they all evoke the holiday so beautifully that I felt they deserved this spotlight.
Congrat, honorees, and here's hoping more new Thanksgiving cookies hit the site over the next couple of weeks! 👏🏻
#1: Gather Together by Delorse [EDITOR'S NOTE: I can't completely spill the beans, but we have a surprise coming to Cookie Connection later this month, thanks to @Delorse! I am eager for the reveal, but, for now, I will just sit back, bite my tongue, and admire her gorgeous cookies! Extra congrats to Delorse for earning this week's cover spot. ~JMU]
#2: Sophisticated Leaves by Dolce Flo [EDITOR'S NOTE: What a stunning - and original - fall color choice by @Dolce Flo! ~JMU]
#3: Happy Fall! by Cookies on Cambridge [EDITOR'S NOTE: A perennial fall favorite, for reasons you can clearly see, these cookies crop up in our Spotlight about this same time each year. Well done, @Cookies on Cambridge! ~JMU]
#4: Country Corn by Teri Pringle Wood [EDITOR'S NOTE: @Teri Pringle Wood, widely known on Cookie Connection as our Queen of Hearts for her lacy and lavishly piped heart cookies, certainly proves her versatility with this charming candy corn set! ~JMU]
#5: Pumpkin Platter (View #2) by Maddy D's Sweets [EDITOR'S NOTE: What a clever fall pumpkin platter! I love how @Maddy D's Sweets' whole pumpkin is greater than the sum of its parts! ~JMU]
#6: Pie Cookies by Lorena Rodríguez [EDITOR'S NOTE: @Lorena Rodríguez does it again with these picture-perfect pies. They received a cover spot about a year ago today, and we know why! ~JMU]
#7: Autumn Transfers by Tina at Sugar Wishes [EDITOR'S NOTE: Perhaps we should call her "Tina of Transfermania" instead?! 😉 After all, @Tina at Sugar Wishes truly rocks the royal icing transfer here! ~JMU]
#8: All the Fall Feels by MegMeACake [EDITOR'S NOTE: @MegMeACake's chosen title couldn't sum up this set's warm-and-cozy vibes any more perfectly! ~JMU]
#9: Thanksgiving Cookie Platter by kns93 [EDITOR'S NOTE: Just one of @kns93's turkey platters would have been fabulous enough, but get a load of the entire flock! Wow! ~JMU]
#10: Fall Leaves! by TriciaZ@Tricia's Cookie Cottage [EDITOR'S NOTE: So striking, yet simple - who could ask for a better combination in cookie-land, especially during the busy holiday decorating season? Thank you, @TriciaZ@Tricia's Cookie Cottage! ~JMU]
Congrats again, honorees! Have a great fall weekend. Being the Thanksgiving fan that I am, I plan to stay busy designing my Turkey-day place settings to include some new 3-D place card cookies!
So that no one has an unfair advantage in making it onto a hot list, the algorithm is secret even to site administrators. Only our platform developers know the code, which has been exhaustively tested by those developers and Cookie Connection staff.
