CookieCon Day #2: Presentations and Unexpected Guests!

Day #2 of CookieCon continued at an invigorating pace with speaker presentations, the raffle and cutter swap in full swing, and some rather unexpected guests. Read on to see what I mean . . .

Or if you're more the listening sort, visit my special CookieCon playlist on my YouTube channel for one-on-one interviews with an assortment of speakers, sponsors, and other special CookieCon people. (Pardon the jumping off site; these videos were too big to upload here.):

(P.S. Somewhere in the above videos you'll find the answer to the million-dollar question: Will there be a CookieCon 2015? Or must we wait for 2016? )

Lynda

The morning welcomed some last-minute arrivals, including the lovely Lynda Schembri (right), who I had the good fortune of meeting recently in Portugal. I'm continually amazed by the power of cookies, and how they can make a vast world seem so tiny!

Brad

Also among the fashionably late registrants were some unexpected celebrities.

Ryan

Swoon!

PhotoBooth

As it turned out, the boys got a little too friendly with some of the attendees . . . (Leave it to BRP Box Shop for coming up with this creative photo booth.)

CutterSwap

A colorful cookie swap was also in full swing by 8 am.

Raffle1

As was this incredible raffle! (Note Ryan keeping close watch over the KitchenAid and Kopykake. Bless his gorgeous heart!)

Schedule

Today was the day for speaker presentations (my schedule, above). Unlike last time, the classes were broken up into tracks, which allowed for smaller session formats and more free-flowing speaker-to-student discussion.

GeorgeanneAgain

The very pregnant and radiant Georganne Bell (LilaLoa) exploring all facets of color theory and mixing. (Apologies for the especially dark photo; it's doesn't do her radiance justice.)

Angela

Here's Angela Rudy (Oh, Sugar! Events) explaining the importance of cookie "research" in designing cohesive cookie sets.

SweetAmbs2

And, the lovely Amber Spiegel (SweetAmbs) demonstrating her signature filigree with her characteristic finesse. Unfortunately, the obligations of my vendor booth kept me from observing all of the speakers today, but my aim is to capture video interviews with many of them tomorrow. Stay tuned - and please be patient . . . the internet connection here is as slow as molasses.

GreatestGift

Lastly, on a very personal note, I share one of my most memorable vendor booth-moments - drawings from two of my favorite young cookiers, hand-delivered by their mom today. Please note the ring of cookiers wrapping all the way around the world and back. It sums up the power of cookies so beautifully, doesn't it?

Tomorrow offers the promise of mystery shape decorating, impromptu decorating instruction, and . . . the long-awaited announcement of the Sugar Show winners. On that note, prepare to be amazed! While the rest of today's videos are uploading, I'm going to open up another blog post to wow you with some of those entries.

Some of the videos may still be processing (as of 1:30 am, Saturday), so be sure to check back if they aren't yet viewing for you.

Hi this is Jim from Tru Color, first I need to correct my statement in the interview, Lemons contain Citric Acid! (Not Vinegar!) Is Julia not the most amazing person, how in the world does she have time to do all the amazing things she does?  I really admire her, isn't she GREAT!  Any way Cookie Con was a lot of fun :-) I met so many wonderful and creative people! It was awesome!

The excitement of the girls who won the prizes at dinner really took the show and it was the perfect ending to the well organized event.

A BIG shout out to Mike and Karen for bringing us all together!

For those who are asking, you can send questions about Tru Color and where to get Tru Color to Sales@TruColor.Org.  If you are are in Colorado, then contact John or Judy at CakeCrafts.net!

Also, sorry about your narrow, bouncy video, Jim. I realized only afterwards that I probably should have shot in landscape mode. Better yet, I probably should have hired a professional videographer!  Maybe next year!
