As I shelter indoors to get a way from the August heat, my mind keeps wandering to the cooler days I know will eventually return. I'm marking my calendar with all of the cookies I want to deliver and when I need to finalize my decorating ideas. A big theme which is right around the corner is back to school. My area has so many events to get students school-ready: everything from backpack distributions and extracurricular signups to all sorts of pre-season practices. I have a tendency to donate cookies for everything I just mentioned, so I need to get moving with design selection. Personally, I can think of no better way to do that than by turning to all of the talented cookiers on this site for inspiration. And so this week's hot list* features the top-trending back-to-school cookies. Some posts are new, and some posts are old, but all are inspiring. Let's go ahead and take a look.
#1: Thanks, Teachers! by Montserrat Esquivel (@Montserrat Esquivel has given us a beautiful reminder that we can't thank teachers enough!)
#2: A,B,C,D,E,F,G 💚💙❤ by Kanch J (The black lines really add depth to @Kanch J's colorful stripes; plus, they're evocative of ruled notepaper, which is perfectly fitting with this back-to-school theme.)
#3: "Cacti and Roses" Back-to-School Cookies by Evelindecora (This delicate set is so enticing that it would make even the most reluctant back-to-schoolers eager to return to class! Amazing, @Evelindecora! And extra congrats on being chosen for this week's cover art!)
#4: College Football Helmets by Gee You're Sweet (Football is also very big in my area, so perhaps my upcoming cookie designs need to take some lessons from @Gee You're Sweet's colorful display of school spirit?!)
#5: Crayola Cookies by The Sweet Workshop (These sweet crayons would fit perfectly in any backpack! Well done, @The Sweet Workshop.)
#6: Lightbulbs by Allison @Baked On Briar (Bright ideas are certainly needed for a new school year, and these cookies are just that! Very clever and such realistic highlights, @Allison @ Baked on Briar!)
#7: Alphabet Cookies by Sweet D.Lights (From A to Z, the unique designs and finely executed details on these alphabet cookies get an A+. Great set, @Sweet D.Lights!)
#8: Dárek pro Pana Učitele aka A Gift for Teacher by Dita (These handpainted beauties are pure delight. Stunning work, @Dita! BTW, Dita was Cookie Connection's June 2024 site artist, and I can't wait to read her Cookier Close-up interview that Julia says is underway!)
#9: Back-to-School Cookies by Magnificookies (The many classic motifs in this set - from buses and notepaper to apples and pencils - clearly signal that school days are here. Nicely done, @Magnificookies!)
#10: Marching Band Hats and Music Notes by SweetMelissasCookies (Band practice will start soon! And @SweetMelissasCookies has managed to hit all of the right notes to get us jazzed up.)
I don't think the back-to-school theme has ever looked so delicious! And I don't know about you, but now I feel as though I have a lot of cookie homework to do! 😀
I hope everyone has a safe, joyful, and productive week!
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Before you all hop off to read something else, I want to take a moment to commend @LisaF not only for this fine post and for helping me to keep our Spotlights on time and thriving, but also for winning the third-place prize in the 3-D Cookie/Advanced-Master category of my recent cookie art competition! Woo hoo, Lisa! 👏🏻 Her entry, which you can see in the official winner reveal post, presented judges with a delightful journey through so many fun details! Like all of the cookies that Lisa spotlights each week, her entry should serve as great inspiration to you! ~JMU]
