Saturday Spotlight: Bake to Defeat ALS

Okay, so this isn't my characteristic Saturday Spotlight, but I think it's an important one. So listen up, pleeeeze!

Bake to Defeat ALS

As you may already know from all the internet buzz, August is Bake to Defeat ALS month not just in the cookie community, but in the larger baking world!

Take a Bite

Bake to Defeat ALS is not an organized event of The ALS Association, but has been spearheaded by Anita Cadonau-Huseby from Sweet Hope Cookies to raise ALS awareness and money to help support medical research and other activities of The ALS Association.

I encourage you to join this challenge and incredible cause by donating proceeds from baking, helping to spread the word, making a straight-up cash donation, or doing any one (or more) of the things that Anita suggests here.

As I mentioned in a forum post earlier this week, here at Cookie Connection, we're trying to do our part by spreading the word. Throughout the month of August, we'll be featuring any cookies baked for the cause on the home page of the site. We'll also be showcasing these cookies and the cause in social media and our weekly Saturday Spotlights - starting with this week's!

We have one member taking an early lead in supporting the cause (with many more to come, I'm sure), so I'm showcasing her wonderfully cheery cookies this week. Please take a moment to click on her name, which will take you to her source images on the site, where she explains how she's using these cookies to support The ALS Association.

Marie, who harks from Denmark, is clearly testament that anyone anywhere can make a difference!

I know many of you are already designing and baking cookies as well, so I encourage you to share them here - and everywhere - to help spread the Bake to Defeat ALS word!

If you post your contributions here on Cookie Connection, just be sure to upload them to our "Cookies for a Cause" clip set and to tag and entitle them with the hashtag "#BaketoDefeatALS" to ensure that the ALS message is spread when your images get shared from this site. I hope to see many more of your cookie contributions in Spotlights later this month!

And, if you don't have time to bake on top of what you're already doing, no worries. There are myriad other ways you can rise to the challenge. For more ideas, please visit baketodefeatals.com

Have a great weekend, everyone!

P.S. It's so nice to see the Bake to Defeat ALS donation tally steadily rising! A snapshot from just minutes ago . . .

I don't know, but I imagine Anita does - she's been baking with it most of this week, I think!  You might try messaging her on her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SweetHopeCookies

Thank you! Gosh the total is looking great, well done everyone. Looking forward to seeing everyone's ideas over the next month

Joanie, the ALS cutter is from That's A Nice Cookie - the link to the cutter in their shop is http://www.thatsanicecookiecut...e/c28/Charities.html there are some other cutters with other stores too, but that's the one with ALS and bite marks which I think might be the one you meant.

Thank you Marie. That is exactly the one I was looking for.
