Happy 1st Birthday Giveaway!

It's hard to pinpoint the exact birthday of this (my beloved) site. It launched "softly" into cyberspace in Spring 2013 with different people getting introduced to it at various stages of development.

About a month before I announced its birth on Facebook, a small cadre* of members were already testing the site's various features and functionality while I was furiously adding content so it wouldn't be naked upon official arrival. (Naked might be normal for most babies, but it wasn't acceptable for this one!) A month or so before that, the lovely Jaci Baynes Harper of Ali's Sweet Tooth was the one who gave me the idea and encouragement to start this community. It took some coaxing, but she eventually convinced me!  She looked at early versions of the site, provided input on possible names, and also joined the team doing the early testing. Around this same time, Elizabeth Watt of Pretty Sweet Designs stepped in to offer advice on my color and font choices and to work on banners, backgrounds, and other necessary graphics. I am deeply indebted to all of these people; for without them, Cookie Connection would have never come into being.

While the history is a little fuzzy, I do know this: it was a quick gestation period (no more than two months). Testing on the site was still underway at the end of May and into early June 2013, and one of my first official welcome posts on the site was dated June 7.

That said, I'm splitting the difference and declaring June 1, 2013 as Cookie Connection's official birthday! I hope you'll celebrate with me by taking part in this giveaway!

(Another great graphic by Pretty Sweet Designs, BTW!)

In one short year, we've grown to over 3,700 members (from nearly 50 countries)! We've brought on six (now five) incredible contributors, and we're experiencing an average of about 1.4 million views per month. What's more, some amazing sponsors, including Designer Stencils, Fancy Flours, BRP Box Shop, The Classic Cookie Cutter, and Craftsy, have consistently supported us along the way.

But more important than any of these numbers are the warmth, energy, and wonderful artistry that members of this community share so generously with one another each day. It's been immensely gratifying to see the world of cookie decorating come closer together and to get to know many of you through your cookies and comments on this site. Thank you, everyone, for making this year one of the most rewarding ones that my sieve-like brain can remember!  I look forward to many more years of cookie fun together!

Enough waxing poetic about the site's birthday . . . about that giveaway!

What's Up For Grabs

We've got three great prizes, all for one winner:

2. Second, another lovely custom-embroidered Cookie Connection apron straight off the plane from Italy, this time in blue (retail value: $40).

Happy Birthday Cookie Connection. I only found the site very recently, I thought it had been going for years!

As a suggestion for year 2: the site is great, keep it the same. (I would only change one little detail: I would leave out the 'likes' in the Recent Activity list so it is easier to spot contributions and comments)

First of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY Cookie Connection!!!! ... U're really 'connecting' us where stay at different continents. I just joint this community a view hours ago, even I'seen Julia tutorial before. I am a newbie to cookie decorating and when I see Julia video tutorial, it's makes me more love & feel that I should make something Beautiful as Julia's someday. The last but not least Thank U for accepting me in this community & I'll love to learn more tutorial&ideas from Cookie Connection

I'm very new to the site (and cookie decorating) I'd love to see more tutorials by these wonderful artist and any tips and tricks they'd like to share.  Amazing content and I am spending way too much time here

First off thank you Julia for hosting this website.  I check it daily and enjoy all of the wonderful cookies that are posted.

I would like to see more tutorials for next year.  I know you have had a few and I have really enjoyed them.  Thanks again!

Happy 1st Birthday, Cookie Connection.  I really really really would like more tutorials on the cookies that are posted.  More give aways would be nice too, :-).  Keep up the great job you are all doing as it is a wonderful site!

Hello and Happy Birthday, Cookie Connection!  And thank you for the drawing to win the gifts, they are lovely prizes!

I would love to see more community interaction between members, so no questions can ever be left hanging; perhaps a place for live-chats with those who know the craft, teaching those of use who want to learn.

I am especially interested in air-brushing techniques, but want to learn all of it.

I would also like to see more tutorials as new techniques are developed please.

Again, I am most grateful for your time and energy, and greatly enjoy this site.  Blessings upon you all.

Thanks - just so you know, I already conduct (scheduled) monthly live chats with expert decorators. We also have a live chat room that is open 24/7 so you can ask questions of, or talk with, anyone logged into the site. Both of these areas/features can be found by clicking on "Chats" in the main navigation line. I don't have an expert chat yet scheduled for June, but I expect to have it announced soon. All past chat transcripts can be found under "Previous Events" under "Chats". ~JMU

Happy Birthday!!! Thank you so much for a place to go to find inpiration and learning.  I really enjoy the video tutorials and would like to see more of them with advanced techniques.

***HAPPY BIRTHDAY!***

I would love to see 'off the beaten path' tutorials.  If you done something (that your willing to share) that you can upload a video, or photos (whatever the site could handle).  A 'how to', but not the usual everyday stuff ~ but something over the top, that is out of the ordinary, but works to create an edible decorated cookie

Happy Birthday!!!  Cookie Connection is already great but wouldn't it be fun to have a column where a cookie cutter pic is posted and everybody says what they think it could be made into.. I think it might actually teach people to think outside the cutter.  Thanks for a great site for cookie inspiration.

Congratulations to all of us members in our first year as a community!!!

I would like to see more tutorials on different techniques. I know I've been MIA and missed a lot of pictures lately, but still, besides checking IG and FB, this is the place where I know I'm going to find cookiers amazing work.

I can have my prize sent to a US address.

Happy Birthday,   I would love to see more tutorials on how to do the basic, intermediate, and advance cookies.

How to exactly run a cookie business out of ones home.

For this site to continue forever..

I'm saving my pennies for CookieCon 2015!

Hi, just so everyone knows as there seems to be some confusion, CookieCon (the conference) is run completely independently of this site. Cookie Connection (this online community) is not related to the organization or operation of that event at all, other than that we sometimes sponsor it. It is run by Karen and Mike Summers of Karen's Cookies. (I just want to be sure credit is given where credit is due.) Cookie Connection hosts live chat events (strictly online) but no in-person events, and has no plans to do so for the foreseeable future.  ~JMU

I would like to see a way to swap with other cookiers various things that we don't love anymore like cutter, luster dusts etc.

Good news! We actually already have a forum dedicated to just this purpose. Please check it out: http://cookieconnection.juliau...om/forum/cookie-swap

Also, please check your Dialog box on the site. I sent you a message regarding where you have been posting images; they need to be posted to the Clips area, not the Blog. Thanks. ~JMU

Happy Birthday on the website!

I would love to see more tutorials, especially on painting on cookies.

I am a beginner cookier and have not been brave enough to post any of my decorated cookies as yet. I need more practice and would love to see more teachings.
