Give a huge hello and thank-you to Berni Solti (aka @Gingerland) yet again! It's her love-ly (pun intended) love bird- and love letter-filled cookie art that will be adorning our banner and backdrop throughout February. Isn't it sweet?! As you probably know by now, a few months ago, Berni gave me a treasure trove of cookie photos to feature on our site, and I've been gradually posting them as the months roll by. Her most recent contribution was back in December ( here ),...Read More...

Hi, all! First, huge thanks to Cookie Connection members @mintlemonade (cookie crumbs) and @Ryoko ~Cookie Ave.! In an effort to lure more Japanese members to this site, they generously volunteered to translate the site's Terms of Use (利用規約) and Photo Posting Guidelines (画像・動画投稿について ―― 投稿する前に必ずお読みください) into Japanese! THANK YOU, LADIES! Now, everyone will find links to the Japanese translations at the top of each of those pages (links above), and also directly below: Terms of Use...Read More...

How to Edit or Delete Your Own Content

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all, I've been receiving an unusually large number of questions about how members can edit or delete their own content. It's super important for you to know how to do this, as I typically do not edit posts for people, unless I happen to see a misclassified image or other typo. It can also take me several hours to days to respond to site inquiries like this, as I work several other jobs. That being said, your surest bet for getting a quick answer is to familiarize yourself with our site...Read More...

Hi, all, regrettably, I've recently had to delete some images from challenges and other areas of the site due to lack of compliance with Rule #8 of our posting guidelines, which states that artwork (including characters, from Disney, Hasbro, etc.) cannot be copied and posted here without permission from the creator : http://cookieconnection.juliau...READ-BEFORE-YOU-POST In response to those deletions, some members have asked me why so many licensed character cookies exist on the site,...Read More...

Adjusting Your Email Notifications and Onsite Alerts

Julia M. Usher
We all have different message-reading tastes, so Cookie Connection has been designed to allow for everyone's individual differences! The site's default email and onsite alert notifications are set to show you most of the site info that you could get notified about, just so you're aware of the site's full functionality. But I recognize that this amount of info may (or may not) be overkill for you. That said, I recommend that you edit your "Notifications" settings as soon as you join the site...Read More...

Posting Images - Please Read Before You Post!

Read in Japanese (日本語はこちらから) (Last Translation: August 25, 2017) ________________________________ Hi, all! Before posting images or videos to the Clips area, please review the site's Terms of Use , as well as all of the following posting rules. They are designed to give your images more visibility on the site, to make sure artists are given proper credit for design inspiration and/or source artwork, and to avoid copyright violations. I'll start with the easy cataloging stuff first . . . 1.Read More...

Hi, all! I've got some bittersweet news to share. After writing on and off for the site since 2014 (!), the crazy-talented @Lucy (Honeycat Cookies) is officially retiring from her popular "What's New, Honeycat?" series of blog tutorials on Cookie Connection . "Life is good", reports Lucy; she's simply gotten too busy with her real job and life in general to keep up her pace of super high quality work here. Of course, I will miss Lucy beyond measure (what a delight she was to work...Read More...

Hi, all! As you may or may not know, anyone can post a tutorial to our blog, but these posts all get reviewed and edited by me to make sure they meet Cookie Connection blog standards. This review process often takes three or more hours per post - more when language translation is involved. That being said, I am unusually busy right now, so I am not accepting blog posts from anyone but official contributors for the next few months. If you are not on the Cookie Connection contributor team but...Read More...

Julia M. Usher
Mark your calendars for February 16! Next up in our CookieCon 2019 Speakers Series is a live chat with CookieCon instructor and über-cookie competitor Arlene Chua of @Chua Cookie! Although a relative newbie to the cookie landscape, Arlene has already amassed an impressive track record. In under two years, Arlene placed in several cookie shows and also appeared on two Food Network Challenges! Heads up, everyone! Dotty Raleigh's (aka @SugarDotCookies') latest edition of Sugar Dot Surveys has posted, here ! She and I are hoping you can fill out this brief survey (it takes no more than 5 minutes) by February 3, 2019 , so Dotty can analyze and recap your responses by the end of February. As the banner says, this survey is about dough thickness and the tools, if any, you most often use to control dough thickness. If you're not familiar with these surveys, that may be...Read More...

Say Hello to Our January 2019 Site Artists!

Julia M. Usher
Happy New Year, everyone! I sincerely hope that 2019 brings you much happiness and success in your cookie lives and beyond! Here on Cookie Connection , we are certainly ringing in 2019 with a plethora of possibilities - at least as far as site art is concerned. Earlier this month, I repurposed past posts of @Aproned Artist and mine to come up with this month's banners and backdrops. Like last month, we'll see two sets of art this month, starting first with Aproned Artist's...Read More...

An Important Announcement About the JULIA Airbrush System

Julia M. Usher
Hi, everyone! The JULIA Airbrush System sold more quickly than ever anticipated and, as some of you may know, is now stocked out. Thank you to everyone who supported the product through their purchases. I am so grateful to you! Several people have asked when it will be available again, and, instead of responding to each and every one of you separately, here's the official answer for all. I regret to say that I have no plans to release any more of this particular system . It’s a long story,...Read More...

Craftsy is Now Bluprint!

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! Just a quick note that Craftsy, as we used to know it, is no longer! "Craftsy" was recently rebranded to "Bluprint". So what does this mean for us here on Cookie Connection ? The good news (for now anyway) is that all the Craftsy classes you once saw promoted via affiliate links on this site still exist (phew!), but they now show up under Bluprint links (like the one shown below) and reside on the Bluprint site. Craftsy has been completely subsumed into Bluprint. In other words, you...Read More...

New Site Submissions Clip Set for Site Backgrounds and Banners

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! Well, Practice Bakes Perfect Challenge #13 was such a resounding success (read the recap here ) that I decided to invite members to submit background and banner photos for consideration at any time. I would love to continue to feature members' cookies in these areas for as long as Cookie Connection exists! In addition to keeping the site looking its best, this approach should also bring more visibility to your work. To facilitate the submission process, I've opened up a new clip set...Read More...

Congratulations to Evelindecora on Becoming a "Cookie Queen"

Julia M. Usher
Hey, all! I just wanted to extend a public congratulations to @Evelindecora for achieving 100,000 activity points on Cookie Connection this past weekend, elevating her to our highest "Cookie Queen" status on the site! You'll now see her sporting the following badge on her member profile and perhaps elsewhere online, and this is why! As you may or may not know, activity points are basically a fun, non-competitive measure of your activity on the site, which, if you hadn't...Read More...

Saturday Spotlight Resumes on December 15

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! Just a quick heads-up: there will be no Saturday Spotlight on December 8, as I am in all-day video shoots and classes the entire weekend. The Spotlight will resume on December 15, Christmas shopping and house-cleaning permitting! Thanks for your understanding. Maybe I'll get a clone for Christmas?!Read More...
Yes, Berni Solti (aka @Gingerland) is back with us for the duration of December! A few months ago, Berni gave me a load of site art for many different months, and, within that treasure trove, she gifted me with TWO options just for December. Both are so darn cute (see below) that I wasn't quite sure which to choose . . . Option 1: Option 2: . . . and so . . . I didn't! (Avoiding decisions sure makes life easy! ) I'll be starting this month with the first stocking and tree...Read More...

Hi, all! There will be a brief hiatus in chats in December, seeing as most of us are likely to be distracted by the holidays. But, come the new year, we'll be chatting again in full force with the launch of our CookieCon 2019 Speakers Series, dedicated to conversations with the event's featured presenters ! It was just yesterday (almost literally) that we concluded the 2018 series. Because CookieCon changed to an annual schedule, now each spring, we're experiencing nearly back-to-back...Read More...

Meet Our November Site Artist!

Julia M. Usher
Finally! At long last, Missouri has jumped fully into fall, all in the 11 few days that I was in Japan. My green trees suddenly have tinges of red and orange on them, and all of the seed pods in my garden are now definitively VERY brown. I chose this month's site artist (Timea Gazdagné Görbe, aka @PUDING FARM) not only because her work very much conveys the state of my fall yard , but also because poppies are the symbol of "remembrance". Later this month, we have one of our...Read More...

Latest Saturday Spotlight and Hiatus Until October 27

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all, a quick Saturday Spotlight update! Two days ago, I posted a special (and extra long) Spotlight featuring the winners of my "Julia Usher's Decorated Cookie Competition" at the 2018 Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show (OSSAS). Those winners were Stacy Frank (aka @thefrostitute), Shelby Bower, and Heather Brookshire. (Congrats again, ladies!) Not only did they create superb works of art for the show, but they also did a superb job of providing work-in-process photos and...Read More...
Woo hoo! Our 2018 CookieCon Speakers Series continues (and concludes) with our last (but not least) CookieCon instructor live chat. On November 3 at 10 am central time , we're meeting up with none other than Katy Metoyer of Sugar Dayne , perhaps best known for her avant-garde, impressionistic seaside-themed cookies, like the beauties pictured below. Since 2017, she's also been the proud operator of a brick-and-mortar cookie shop, which I suspect we'll learn a lot more about during the chat!Read More...

Thanks to Berni Solti, aka @Gingerland, for dressing up our site again this month - this time in full-on Halloween regalia! I just love Berni's crisp lines and perfect piping, and the "energy" of her designs, don't you?! As you may know, Berni has been a prolific contributor of site art, and, as such, has already been the subject of one of our in-depth Cookier Close-up interviews - one of the perks of being a site artist! So, if you don't yet know her, please read that...Read More...

Say Hello to Our May Site Artist!

Julia M. Usher
Hi! Yes, that site artist is me once again, so we'll skip the usual artist intro and move onto more important matters - like how to get your art featured instead of mine! I'd really, truly love to have more submissions from all of you. One reason is selfish: I'm bored with seeing my cookies. Typically, I've looked at them for countless hours before posting them here, and enough is enough! But the primary reasons are for you. Featured cookiers get noticed by other members, potential...Read More...
